Join us for First Friday at The Wildbirch Hotel as we welcome artist Cheryl Lyon back to Alaska for Returning Home, a collection of almost 30 pieces exploring the landscape, light and textures of a place she says will always be home.
Inspired by Alaska’s vast complexity of color and the simplicity of its shapes and textures, Lyon creates atmospheric works that capture everything from the intense light of a sunset to the dramatic darkness of a storm. Working primarily in encaustic, she builds layers of paint and other materials over time, allowing previous marks, colors and shapes to remain beneath the surface and give each piece a sense of depth and history.
